Americano

Americano is a vibrant neighbourhood restaurant by Chef Alex Sanchez and Restaurateur Mallyeka Watsa. Since its hotly anticipated debut in March 2019, Americano remains a destination for its creative cuisine, genuine hospitality, and expertly crafted cocktails.

Nestled in Kala Ghoda, Bombay’s premier arts and fashion district, the dining room and bar occupy a stylishly appointed room with 20-foot ceilings and large fluted glass windows. The space reflects its locale with a brass mobile installation and elegant yet understated decor.

A visionary and pioneer of farm-to-table cooking in India, Sanchez is a champion for locally sourced produce of the finest quality. His fanatical respect for ingredients is evident in the dishes he creates, where a light touch enhances the inherent flavours of the product. The cuisine at Americano reflects a chef's evolution: from young and ambitious, eager to display his technique; to mature and confident, leaving his ego at the door and cooking with restraint.

Our menu showcases Chef Alex’s unique cooking style which draws from a diverse range of flavours and techniques, resulting in food that is layered, textural, and refined without any pretence.

Mallyeka Watsa

Mallyeka Watsa has been immersed in the restaurant industry since she was a child. Granddaughter to famed Indian cookbook author, and legendary hostess, Premila Lal (a.k.a. Kiki Watsa), Mallyeka fondly recalls the lavish parties of her bon vivant Grandmother from whom she learned the art of entertaining, inspiring her to create her signature style of hospitality. Two years as the Manager of Sales and Client Services at Shakti Himalaya, one of India’s most exclusive 5-star resorts catering to high-profile travelers and celebrities, led her to Paris to pursue her passion for fine patisserie. Upon graduating from École Ferrandi, a prominent culinary institute in Paris, she honed her craft in the kitchens of La Patisserie by Cyril Lignac and Rose Bakery, where she would rise through the ranks under the direct tutelage of Rose Carrarini. Mallyeka returned to her native Bombay with renewed perspective, eager to create a world-class restaurant. But before she would make her mark in hospitality, the fearless young entrepreneur co-created Ayca, a luxury skincare brand that would soon make its way into India’s finest eco-luxe resorts. Featured in Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Conde Nast Traveler, and the Economic Times, Mallyeka quickly garnered a reputation for luxurious quality with a social conscience. In March 2019, Mallyeka Watsa and her partner Alex Sanchez opened the doors at Americano.
